Houston Texans head coach De’Meiko Ryans plans to use running backs Damon Pierce and Joe Mixon as a one-two punch to power the ground offense in the 2024 season, according to the Houston Chronicle. ( zbet911 )
The Texans made a notable upgrade to their offensive roster this offseason, trading wide receiver Stephon Dixon from the Buffalo Bills and running back Mixon from the Cincinnati Bengals, and Ryan believes the former Panthers running back would be a good complement to third-year running back Pierce.
“What I saw from Damon this offseason was a guy who was dedicated to his job,” Ryans said. “I saw Damon really clear his mind as we went out there and I think that’s going to really help him out this year.”
‘He has everything to be a really good running back for us and I think him and Joe having a one-two punch will be a big benefit for all of us.’
Pierce struggled in Bobby Slovic’s 2023 season, starting the first seven games before missing three with an ankle injury. He was available to return, but was backed up by Devin Singletery. Pierce finished the season with 145 carries for 416 yards and two touchdowns in 14 games.
