Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell has tapped a familiar face in John Morton, 55, to replace Ben Johnson as the new offensive coordinator, who left to become the head coach of the Chicago Bears, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports. ( zbet911 )
Morton was part of Campbell’s staff, working as a senior offensive coordinator in 2022 before moving on to become the Denver Broncos’ coordinator under head coach Sean Payton in 2023 before returning to Detroit.
Morton reportedly arrived in Detroit to meet with the team on Monday and signed with the Lions the following day to take over as offensive coordinator from Johnson.
The Lions previously decided to promote Kelvin Shepard from linebackers coach to the new defensive coordinator position, taking over from Aaron Glenn, who moved to the New York Jets as head coach.
Meanwhile, Morton is a Broncos offensive coordinator who left Denver this offseason after Declan Doyle stepped down as wide receivers coach to become the Bears’ offensive coordinator under Johnson.
