“After much prayerful reflection and discussion with Heather, I have decided to retire from the NFL,” Carr said in a statement. “It has been an incredible 11 years since we last played, and we are forever grateful and humbled by this experience. It is difficult to find the right words to express our gratitude to our teammates, coaches, executives, owners, staff and especially the fans who have made this journey so special. Your unwavering support means so much to us.”
“Derek obviously went through a lot this offseason, deciding to retire from the NFL after 11 years, first of all, you have to have a lot of respect and admiration for what Derek has done in this league, the way he’s done it, the performances he’s shown on the field and off the field,” Saints coach Kellen Mohr said.
‘And the impact he’s had on so many people in this profession is really special. Coming here, I’ve always had such respect and admiration for him and as we’ve gone through this process, it’s clear that this is what’s finally come together, just good communication throughout the whole process as much as possible.
