Chicago Bears rookie quarterback Caleb Williams has said he had no role in the decision to fire offensive coordinator Shane Waldron, with throwing coordinator Thomas Brown taking over as play-caller, NFL Network reports.
“I can definitely see what’s going on,” Williams said. “It’s tough because you worked for months and knew Shane (Waldron) before he got drafted here because of the process and stuff, just trying to build that relationship, and then the guy that you’re trying to understand is no longer here. So now you have to adapt and adapt quickly because we’re in the playoffs and we’re playing the Packers this week.”
Asked about the decision to fire Waldron as offensive coordinator on Tuesday, Williams said: “I have no say in the decision and I have no say in whether it’s good or bad. My job is to listen and then do my job.”
‘It’s hard not to score as many points or not move the ball as well as you should. I think that’s where the frustration comes from.’
The Bears were off to a 4-2 start heading into the bye week before head coach Matt Eberflus’ team lost three straight, allowing just 9.0 points per game, 156.0 yards per game and no touchdowns on its last 23 possessions.
With all that change, Williams has higher expectations for the rest of the season, saying, “I think we’ll do a good job of putting everything together, keeping everything looking the same. Then you have a little bit more throws and layups. I think that’s going to help us offensively. It’s going to help us defensively. From there, I think it’s going to give us a boost as a team.” ( sakidbet )
