superpg1688 Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins has admitted he was unhappy being left on the bench for their Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain.
The England international was a substitute in both of Unai Emery’s Champions League quarter-finals, with Marcus Rashford starting as the centre-forward, although he came on late in both games and failed to help his team progress. superpg1688
Watkins then returned to the starting line-up against Newcastle in the league and scored in the first minute to help the home team to a 4-1 win, but he was not happy with the opportunity to play in Europe.
” I only played 20 minutes in both games against PSG, so I’m not going to hide it. I’m upset I didn’t play,” Watkins said.
“I told him (Emery) that at the end of the day he is the manager, I respect his decision but I am not a player who is happy sitting on the bench.
“It’s something I’ve never experienced before, missing out on the biggest stage. You always want to play, especially in the Champions League. I and many others are disappointed not to start but as I said it’s the manager’s decision.
“The team played well but I wanted to stay on the pitch longer. I wanted to start in the big games because I played a big part in getting Villa to where we are now. But instead of letting it hold me back, I used my anger as motivation.” ( superpg1688 )
