vox888 Patrick Mahomes injured his left ankle during Monday’s win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but it was only a minor injury.

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Patrick Mahomes admitted he feared something bad would happen to him when he injured his left ankle in the fourth quarter, was helped to his feet and held on to lead the team to a 30-24 overtime win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday, ESPN reported. vox888

“It was scary, for sure,” Mahomes said after the game. “I thought it was really painful because it was the same ankle I sprained last week, so it scared me a little bit. When you don’t know what’s going to happen and you feel that tingling sensation, you always fear the worst.”

It all worked out for Mahomes, who stayed in the game and threw another touchdown pass to put the Chiefs up 24-17 with 4:17 left, but the Buccaneers tied the game on a Ryan Miller touchdown, but the Chiefs grinded it out in overtime on a Kareem Hunt 2-yard run to improve to 8-0. 

Mahomes completed 34 of 44 passes for 291 yards, three touchdowns, no interceptions and a 116.8 rating, while Hunt rushed 27 times for 106 yards and one touchdown, and wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins caught eight passes for 86 yards and two touchdowns. The other score came from running back Semaje Perein. 

Mahomes previously suffered an ankle injury in a 2022 playoff win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, with head coach Andy Reid pulling him off the field and not allowing him to play until he gets an X-ray. Reid told his quarterback the same thing this time around and told backup quarterback Carson Wentz to get ready to play. 

“I thought he was joking,” Mahomes said. “I said, ‘All right, we’re not doing this again,'” he said, adding that he would be ready to play against the Denver Broncos next week. 

‘You feel pain and that scares you. I’ve dealt with my ankle before but I just lay there and as time goes by the pain goes away. I just get back to it and move around and feel comfortable out there.’

‘The injury in the playoffs a couple of years ago was part of it where I got tackled. It got stuck and it hurt more (this time). I can move. I can still move my ankle and I still can after the game. I might have a little bit of swelling tomorrow, but with a short week, you’ve got to go in there and take care of it and be ready to play next week.’ 

Reid, for his part, said of Mahomes: “He’s a fighter. I told him I was going to take him out and he probably wanted to fight me. So he’s a tough kid.” ( vox888 )
