vox888 Kliff Kingsbury opts to stay with Washington Commanders despite New Orleans Saints approach for head coach position vox888

Kliff Kingsbury, 45, has chosen to stay on as offensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders through the 2025 season after deciding not to consider the head coaching job this offseason amid links to the New Orleans Saints, the only franchise without a new head coach, ESPN reports. ( vox888 )

Kingsbury was one of three coaches the Saints formally requested to interview for the job, but he later withdrew from the interview process, along with Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady. Former Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, who interviewed online, never interviewed for the Saints’ second job before accepting the New York Jets head coach position.

The Saints’ remaining candidates are New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Cavka, Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver and Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Mohr, all of whom have interviewed for the job in their second round, with Mohr the most likely candidate.

Kingsbury, who was the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals from 2019-2022, has a desire to return to head coaching, but for now he is happy in his position in Washington because he can focus solely on the offense and not have the other responsibilities of being a head coach.

The 45-year-old coach also enjoyed working with Jayden Daniels, the No. 2 overall pick in the draft who is the favorite to win Offensive Rookie of the Year.
