vox888 Chad Henney announces NFL retirement after winning Super Bowl 57 as Kansas City Chiefs backup quarterback vox888

Backup quarterback Chad Hennie, 37, announced his retirement from the NFL on Instagram after winning Super Bowl 57 with the Kansas City Chiefs, ESPN reported on Monday.  ( vox888 )

Hennie, who has been with the Chiefs since 2018, briefly warmed up on the sideline after Patrick Mahomes aggravated a right upper ankle sprain with less than two minutes left in the first half. Although the 37-year-old quarterback didn’t get to play in the biggest game of the season, the backup was looking to add to his second career ring since 2019.

The 37-year-old backup filled in for Mahomes earlier this season after the 27-year-old sprained his upper right ankle and missed most of the second quarter of a divisional playoff win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, completing 5-of-7 passes for 23 yards and a touchdown before Mahomes returned to the game in the third.

Hennie entered the league as a second-round draft pick in the 2008 class. He played his first four professional seasons with the Miami Dolphins and then the Jaguars (2012-2017) before moving to Kansas City, where he eventually retired. During his 15-season career, he threw for 13,290 yards, 60 touchdowns and 63 interceptions before retiring with two Super Bowl rings.
