The ‘Iron Eagles’ drew 1-1 with Spain in 90 minutes, dragging the match to Extra Times, and it was the ‘Bulls’ who were sharper, winning 2-1. 

That gave a large group of English fans, who had been drinking all day in central Munich, the opportunity to mock the home side’s more aggressive supporters.  ( vox888 )

“Have you ever seen Germany win a war?” a witness at the scene told Sport Mail.

“That led to about 20 English fans confronting the extremely angry ‘Indralek’ fans, and then two or three pairs of girls threw punches at each other.” 

It led to a glass-throwing war and beer-throwing on the other side of the street, causing a huge mess, until riot police had to intervene at a bar called Steak House. 

The clashes ended quickly, with English fans chanting ‘La Viva Espanyol’ in further taunting of the German fans. 

It was only the second time England fans clashed with supporters of another country at the tournament , after the opening group stage match , in which they clashed with Serbia fans .
