Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who announced his retirement about a week ago, is hoping Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, 39, will continue his career and not rush to retire this offseason, NFL Network reported on Tuesday. ( superheng )
“You know what? I hope he doesn’t retire,” Brady said of Rodgers. “I think the league needs good quarterbacks, and he’s one of the greats, so if he retires, it’s a sad day for the league.”
Knowing when to walk away is tough for any player, especially one who has been chasing a second Super Bowl for more than a decade, but in Brady’s eyes, Rodgers had quite the stellar 2022 season.
“Obviously from his perspective, coming out of the game the way he did, breaking his thumb this year and still playing great,” Brady said. “And you can see when he’s been healthy all year how incredibly talented he is.”
‘So I hope the good players continue to play, that’s my hope, that’s what I’ve tried to do, and now you hope the next generation will do that and I hope they have the tools they need to do that. I’ve been very fortunate to work with guys like Alex (Guerrero), who’s my best friend, my brother and has taught me a lot. ‘
Brady revealed last week he would be stepping down from his Fox Sports role for another year, insisting he wants to keep good players playing football, after previously speaking about the league’s recent lack of quality. ‘I think there’s a lot of bad football from what I watch. I’ve seen a lot of bad football. Bad quality football. That’s what I see.’
However, Brady’s perception changed after watching Super Bowl 57 between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles, and he found it to be a great game, especially with the play of quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts.
“I felt like Jalen played unbelievable,” Brady said. “Patrick played great when he had to, and it was a great way to end the season, and the two best teams of the year are in the Super Bowl, and they played one of the best games of the season. It was fun to watch.”
‘I hope the other guys like Patrick can play for a long time and Jalen can play for a long time and Josh (Allen) and Joe Burrow and all these great players that give so much. That’s why we watch the game, not because of the color of the jersey, but because of the players who wear it.
Brady also addressed Rodgers’ isolation, saying he wanted to take time to think about his future before making a decision: ‘Everybody has a different process they have to go through.’
‘And you know, I think we all need to step away from our phones a little bit. I think we all need to step away from the TV a little bit more. I think we all need a little more nature, a little more silence, a little more peace.’
‘And whatever he thinks about it, it’s good for him. Everybody has their own unique way of handling the season. It’s very serious for all of us and everybody can choose what they want to do,’ Brady said.
