Ward won the Davey O’Brien Award as the nation’s best college quarterback, but he’s still uncertain whether he’ll attend next week’s NFL Scouting Combine, but he sent a clear message to any teams that aren’t interested in drafting him.
‘Okay, are you going to draft me?’ Ward said. ‘If you don’t draft me, that’s your fault. You have to remember that you’re the only team that needs me to play for the rest of my career, and I’ll remember that.’
Ward faced criticism for not playing in the second half of the Pop-Tarts Bowl in December after breaking the NCAA Division I record for rushing touchdowns before the end of the first half.
“I think we all got what we wanted, they saw the things they thought we needed to do for the season and they also knew what I had on the line,” Ward said.
‘We felt like we were doing what was best for the program and myself. I mean, it was a tough decision, especially when some of the players on our team weren’t playing for the guys I thought they should be playing for. They were thinking about their futures the same way I thought about mine.’
Ward also spoke about the success of Jayden Daniels’ rookie season with the Washington Commanders, which gives hope to all young quarterbacks.
