Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels is hoping to avoid a downward trend in his sophomore season after the 24-year-old made an impact in his rookie season, NFL Network reports. sqgame555
C.J. Stroud had a breakout year with the Houston Texans but struggled in his sophomore season, as did a number of players including Garrett Wilson, Ja’Mar Chase, Saquon Barkley and Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. But Daniels is trying to avoid that pattern.
“I’m sitting here watching film and trying to eliminate some of the tendencies as much as I can,” Daniels said. “I’m talking to the coaching staff about areas they feel I need to improve on and talking to them so we can all play our best.”
Daniels completed 69 percent of his passes in his rookie season for 3,568 yards, 25 touchdowns, nine interceptions, and a 100.1 quarterback rating. He was also a threat on the ground, rushing for 891 yards, a new rookie quarterback record, and six scores.
Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury will play a key role in Daniels’ development, with the 24-year-old quarterback saying he feels comfortable with Kingsbury’s play-calling.
“He wants me to be as comfortable as possible,” Daniels said of Kingsbury. “I don’t like this or I don’t like that. He might argue a little bit, but at the end of the day, he’s not going to call a play that makes me feel uncomfortable.” ( sqgame555 )
