Merino has just one year left on his contract at Sociedad and, after helping Spain win Euro 2024, has been linked with a move to Arsenal, who are looking for a new midfielder.

Real Sociedad president Joaquin Aperribay has spoken about the 28-year-old midfielder’s situation, saying: “He has been offered a contract extension for over a year now and the reason he has not extended it is because he does not want to give Real fans the wrong impression, which reflects well on him.”

“I want him to stay, we all do, but if he tells us he has accepted another offer and wants us to negotiate, we will do it.”

“We know he has other offers and we know where they are, but we still hope that Merino will stay at La Real, but if not, we will negotiate for the best for La Real,” the La Real boss said. ( wintime999  )
