pgzen Liverpool boss Arne Slot insists his side were in complete control of Southampton despite a 3-2 win making it feel like a tough game. pgzen
“In the second half I saw the intensity I was looking for in the first half. Southampton makes it very difficult for teams, including the top teams, and they made it even more difficult today, even though I think we had complete control of the game.”
“We didn’t have enough pace to get into the box (in the first half), we just kept the ball instead of pushing into the box. Even though we were behind in the second half we showed more pace and intensity. That led to more chances and eventually two goals.”
“Creating chances is very difficult against a team that plays deep in a 4-5-1 formation, but we know Southampton like to play out from the back, so you have to be really aggressive, otherwise they will do well in their game.”
On Mohamed Salah: “If you want to win, you have to score goals and we know Mo can score goals. For me, his first goal was the most important because we didn’t know how we scored. After that, we just had to score more goals.”
On the overall performance, “The positive thing was that we fought back, but only twice did they get to our 18-yard box. In general, we dominated the game, but because of the score it felt like a tough game, but we deserved to win.”
On facing Real Madrid and Man City in the next fixture: “They are two teams that have dominated football in the last few years, so they are two big games and that’s why we had to win today and that’s what I’m happy about.” ( pgzen )
