Hamilton, a former first-round draft pick in the 2022 class, has had a breakout sophomore season, earning his first All-Pro and Pro Bowl selection in 2023, and Orr, the Ravens’ new defensive coordinator, sees it as just the beginning for one of the most talented 23-year-old safeties in the league.
“Kyle Hamilton is the best chess player. I think he’s one of the top players in the league,” Orr said. “My goal for him is to one day win the league’s defensive MVP award (here). I think he’s got that talent. He’s got that work ethic. He’s that kind of person.”
Hamilton appeared in 16 games (four starts) as a rookie before starting 15 last season, recording 81 tackles, four interceptions, 13 pass breakups, three sacks and 10 tackles for loss. The 23-year-old safety’s skill and versatility impact every aspect of the game.
“The thing about him being the end piece (is) he can play anywhere, depending on what the offense is doing,” Orr said. “He can play safety, deep safety, box safety. He can play corner. He can play nickel. He can play linebacker. He can play outside linebacker as well.”
‘And you know he can rush a quarterback. What you love about Kyle Hamilton is he works at it. He’s a smart player, so he can handle all the different pitches you get. I think he’s eager to get into Year 3 and do more. So we’ll see.’
