The Bears, under new head coach Ben Johnson, are continuing to revamp the team after completing trades for LA Rams guard Jonah Jackson and Kansas City Chiefs guard Joe Thuney to upgrade the offensive line, before the Bears added another offensive addition to their roster with former Dolphins wide receiver Smythe on a one-year deal.
The Bears currently have Cole Kmet as the only wide receiver on the roster, with Gerald Everett and Marcedes Lewis set to hit free agency, and the Bears are set to fill the void by signing Smythe to bring in the 29-year-old to bolster their wide receivers.
