New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said they are waiting to make a decision on Drew Brees’ future before reconsidering the quarterback position. According to a report from NFL Network on Wednesday.  ( lisbon365  )

“I don’t think it’s much different from last year. We’ll wait for him,” Loomis said of Brees. 

Since crashing out of the playoffs after a 10-day loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Brees has yet to announce his intention to end his career if… With Rees deciding to retire, there are questions for Loomis, head coach Sean Payton and the rest of the Saints about who will be the next quarterback.

‘The answer to that will come in the next few weeks as we go through our evaluations and we talk about our roster. We’re talking about every position,’ Loomis said. ‘We generally target our people first, but again, the answers remain to be seen and we’ll have them in the coming weeks.’

The Saints have Tyesom Hill under contract after the 30-year-old quarterback signed a two-year, $16.3 million deal in April of last year. But the Saints’ pitching game under Hill was ineffective. Even though he had a 3-1 record as a starter when Brees was injured, the question for Payton and the Saints is whether Hill can prove to be the long-term answer. 

Jamis Winston, meanwhile, spent a year on the Saints’ roster and will hit the free agent market this offseason along with several other experienced quarterbacks.

“Again, the full evaluation and what happens with that remains to be seen,” Loomis said of the Saints’ potential veteran quarterback options. ‘We’ll talk about every position again. times, but look, we like Taysome, we like Jamis, we like what they’ve done for us. But like any other position We’ll have lots of discussions in the next week or two and will continue from there.’

Whether or not Brees decides to retire from the NFL, Loomis remains confident the Saints will be a team ready to compete for the NFC South Division title. 

‘We have a great roster,’ Loomis said. ‘I can’t see a situation where we don’t… Do everything we can to win. Win now and compete for the title of champion.’
