RB Leipzig coach Marco Rose is hoping to secure victory over Aston Villa and their next two games to stay in contention for a Champions League play-off spot, Sky Germany reported on Monday. 

RB Leipzig have been underwhelming in the Champions League this season, losing their first five games without a single point, but Rose will be hoping to secure a place in the play-offs by winning their final three games, starting with a trip to England’s Aston Villa on Tuesday. 

‘This is the situation we are in,’ Rose said. ‘We have to win tomorrow. We know the situation we are in. We have done it before and now we want to bring victory to our fans in the Champions League. We will face an opponent who knows how to play and has passion. ‘

‘In terms of the mood, the results we’ve had recently have helped, but the mood is never bad, even when we’re not doing well. We know we have to win and we will get the win. We’re looking forward to seeing our fans. We sold out Holstein Kiel [in our last game], it will be a game in our stadium and we want to get the win and then get two more wins in January to get into the play-offs.’

RB Leipzig bounced back from two losses in their last two games, beating Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 in the DFB-Pokal last-16 and then beating Holstein Kiel 2-0 in the Bundesliga on Saturday, following a 5-1 home defeat to Wolfsburg earlier in the day.

‘I think in Kiel we lacked something because of the Frankfurt game and now we have another game in Kiel in three days. We have to give everything. We have to play better with the ball now, to keep the strength and energy.’

When asked about the Aston Villa defence and what he expects on Tuesday, Rose replied: ‘The results are quite similar (after Villa’s winless run of eight games). They won the last two games, as did we. They are a stable side and know their tactics. We know what to expect from them on the ball and off the ball.’

‘They play with great energy and quality. I value every coach. I don’t know him (Unai Emery) personally but I admire him and he is a great coach.’

‘They are a great team, very disciplined on the ball and in the game. It was impressive to see how they had a clear structure to play. It made it easier to prepare for what was coming. We were very well prepared. We have a fast and strong team.’
