Porzingis recently made history as the first Latvian-born player to win an NBA championship after defeating the Dallas Mavericks 4-1 in a series.  ( sakidbet )

However, he has suffered a ligament injury in his left foot since Game 2 of this series. Until missing games 3 and 4, just returned for game 5 as a reserve, scoring 5 points, 1 rebound from playing 16 minutes. 

Until recently, there was a statement confirming that the 7-foot-2 inch player missed out on being a force for the hosts on the field to compete for a ticket to Paris. 

“This injury will require surgical treatment,” read a statement from the National Team X account.

“Porzingis had hoped to postpone the surgery after the NBA Finals and serve with the Latvian national team in the Olympic selection competition, but the injury was too severe to allow him to compete in the playoffs.”  

Latvia is 1 of 6 nations that will play off the winner of a single team to compete for the right to compete in the Paris A.L.P., hosting the tournament in Riga between 2-7 July. 

The other five nations competing in this stadium include the Philippines, Georgia, Brazil, Cameroon and Montenegro.
