“This is the first time I’ve ever done (this),” Robinson said. “With the comfort of a quarterback like Kirk, coming from this type of system, (I) can’t do any better.”
Robinson, 37, is just two years older than Cousins, and began his coaching career in 2019 as an assistant quarterbacks coach with the LA Rams, then as an assistant wide receivers coach in 2020, before returning to the assistant quarterbacks coach role the following season and becoming the quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator in 2022-23 until the Falcons brought him in as the new offensive coordinator.
Cousins spent six seasons with the Minnesota Vikings and worked under Kevin O’Connell the last two years, coming through Rams head coach Sean McVay’s coaching tree, allowing the pair to mesh well.
“He remembers things from when he had Clint Kubiak as offensive coordinator,” Robinson said. “Obviously with O’Connell recently, he’s been able to apply some of the things he’s had with Kevin the last couple years to what we’re doing here. There’s still some new stuff, so he’s still learning some new things, but you can see how well he sees the defense.”
“I think Zach has a great football mind, I think he’s a hard worker and I think he’s got a great way about him,” Cousins said. “They’re responding to him. We’re looking at a lot of avenues from that standpoint.”
‘As players, we always say we have to work hard to make history together so that we can play this autumn. It looks like we’ve been together for five years.’
