The 33-year-old playmaker has just announced he will leave City at the end of the 2024-25 season, which would overlap with the tournament taking place from June 14 to July 13.

Given his contract, which runs until the end of June, De Bruyne should be able to play at least three more group stage games, but there has been no confirmation from the player or club officials so far. 

“It’s a good question (on whether De Bruyne will play in the Club World Cup). The answer is I don’t know. I think he has to make his own decision,” he said at the press conference ahead of the match against

“Honestly, I don’t know.” 

“Do you think the club will talk to him or he himself will say what he wants to do?”

“It’s probably towards the end of his career as a Man City player and it’s the first tournament.”

“According to the contract, we can still play three games first, but after that, if we advance to the next round, I don’t know.”

“I can’t answer that because I think Kevin is the one who should speak. And we have to see if it violates any rules.”
