Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow believes Baker Mayfield will soon find a new opportunity after the 27-year-old quarterback, who has been his rival for two years, lost his job with the Cleveland Browns to Deshaun Watson, NFL Network reported Thursday.

Burrow is set to lead the Bengals into a division rivalry with the Browns, who have a new franchise quarterback after Cleveland traded Deshaun Watson from the Houston Texans, while Mayfield is looking for his new home.

“That was a tough situation. He’s been hurt all year. Every time we played him, he’d do anything,” Burrow said. “The first time we played him, Thursday night in the second week of my rookie year, we lost 34-30. The next time we played them, I threw for 400 yards. He was 25-of-27 with five touchdowns. He set up a drive in a two-minute period, scored a touchdown. They won the game.”

Burrow knows from his experience that Mayfield can lead a team to victory, but he understands why the Browns are investing in Watson to be their new franchise quarterback.

“I think when you have a guy like Deshaun (Watson), you have to take a chance because he’s a great player, but Baker will rise to the occasion, he’s a really good player,” Burrow said.
