Ipswich were one of a number of Premier League clubs to consider a loan bid for Manchester City and it was Phillips who made the final decision after speaking to chairman Mark Ashton and manager Kieran McKenna, who were impressed by the club’s plans.
Phillips is reportedly set to join Ipswich on loan for the 2024-25 season, but there are no details on whether he will make the move permanent after that, with Manchester City agreeing to pay part of the 28-year-old’s wages.
Meanwhile, Ipswich are also pushing ahead with plans to sign Napoli’s Swedish midfielder Jens Kayust after Brentford dropped their bid, forcing the player to return to Italy.
