New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is confident he will lead Gang Green to victory in the upcoming campaign, after his hopes were dashed since he tore his Achilles tendon in the first game of the 2023 season, NFL Network reports. ( pgzen )
‘I’ve always been confident, you know me, I feel like if I’m on the pitch and do what I can do, we’ve got a chance to win No. 1,’ Rodgers said. ‘And No. 2, on top of that, we’re one of them. You know, there’s 10 or 12 teams that can win it this year. That’s what’s exciting.’
On paper, the Jets have a roster ready to compete for success, but that’s much the same as last season, when their hopes were dashed in the first game of the season after Rodgers suffered an injury after just two snaps.
However, both head coach Robert Saleh and attacking coach Nathaniel Hackett are renewed in confidence following Rodgers’ recovery.
‘We dealt with a lot of adversity on and off the pitch last year,’ Rodgers said. ‘Not just injuries, but a lot of comments that were said, a lot of things that happened, and I think in those moments of adversity we really showed what kind of character we had.’
‘I’m very proud of the way we’ve kept it together. I’m proud of the people that have come together around Coach Saleh and Coach Hackett and there’s a lot of belief. Obviously there’s a lot of urgency. I was talking about it the other day. Some people don’t like to talk about urgency, expectations and our work is in the plan every year, but that’s just the reality of this league.
Hackett is joining the Jets to reunite with Rodgers, but Gang Green is the 29th-ranked team in the league in scoring, but the 39-year-old quarterback is still supporting Hackett’s work.
“You have to trust me, and I trust Nathaniel,” Rodgers said of what he wants to tell Jets fans. “To me, that’s the end of the story. There’s been a lot of conversations about it. There’s been a lot of things that have happened over the last couple of years that he’s had to deal with, and I think he’s handled it professionally. And at the end of the day, I think you have to trust the working relationship between him and me and the conversations that we’ve had.”
