The selection process for a suitable replacement revealed that Slot’s right-hand man was included as one of the top choices. 

The 41-year-old former defender has never been a full-time first-team coach, with the closest he came being caretaker manager at Ajax Amsterdam for the second half of the 2022-23 season. 

Then he studied for a season as assistant manager of  David Moyes ‘ West Ham team and most recently was on the staff of the ‘ Reds ‘ with a contract until June 2027 .
