The Denver Broncos have agreed to terms with 25-year-old cornerback Patrick Surtain on a four-year, $96 million deal, with $77.5 million guaranteed, making him the league’s highest-paid defensive back, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. pgzen

Suren became the league’s highest-paid defensive back at $24 million per year, overtaking Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Antoine Winfield, who earns $21.025 million, and Green Bay Packers cornerback Jary Alexander, who earns $21 million.

The former No. 9 overall pick in the 2021 draft has emerged as one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL with his strong play and tenacious coverage, earning All-Pro honors in 2022 and Pro Bowl honors in the last two seasons. 

At 6’2”, Surtain is able to manhandle bigger wide receivers and has the speed to handle speedy wide receivers, one of the few cornerbacks in the NFL who possesses such skills.

Suren still has two more years on his rookie contract, including a fifth-year option worth $19.802 million in 2025. When combined with the new four-year deal, that would mean he’d be in Denver for six more years. ( pgzen )
