Brian Belichick, Bill Belichick’s youngest son, will not return to new head coach Mike Vrabel’s staff after five seasons as the Patriots’ safeties coach, ESPN reports. ( pgzen )

Belichick’s youngest son grew up a die-hard Patriots fan and has spent the past nine years on the team’s staff, starting as a personnel assistant (2016), then an assistant coach (2017-19) and then being promoted to safeties coach since 2020.

“He just changes the game. He thinks about the game. He holds us to a very high standard, and Kane has coached a lot of defensive backs there,” Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers said of Brian Belichick.

The Patriots are in transition under Vrabel, who took over as head coach from Jarrod Mayo, who finished his first season with a 4-13 record.

Vrabel has hired former Tennessee Titans and Detroit Lions defensive line coach Terrell Williams as his defensive coordinator, but there were questions about whether he would consider keeping Belichick and safeties and cornerbacks coach Mike Pellegrino working with Williams, with both reportedly not returning to Foxborough.

Previously, Vrabel brought back Josh McDaniels to work as offensive coordinator, while Jeremy Springer will continue to work as special teams coach with Tom Quinn as an assistant. Former Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone and former Chicago Bears acting head coach Thomas Brown will also be brought in to help with the offensive team.
