Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said he is still evaluating the current situation in hopes of turning things around for the Jaguars, but he did not confirm any changes to his staff, particularly defensive coordinator Ryan Nelsen, NFL Network reports.

The Jaguars suffered a historic loss to the Detroit Lions, allowing a franchise-high 645 total yards. Jared Goff completed 24-of-29 passes for 412 yards, four touchdowns, no interceptions and a perfect 158.3 rating, raising questions over the future of Nelsen, who will be the Leopards’ defensive coordinator. 

“I think you have to be really careful when you start pointing the finger at somebody,” Pederson said when asked about Nelsen’s status. “That’s dangerous, and I’m not going to do that, not right now. As a head coach in a league that’s going through what we’re going through, you’re pointing the finger at somebody else. And if you have to point the finger, you have to point it at me. Start with me. That’s it.” 

Asked if there would be any changes to the play-caller, Pederson said: ‘Everything is in the plan.’ 

Pederson added that he spoke with Jaguars owner Shad Khan after Sunday’s game, but there was no meeting scheduled for Monday.

The Jaguars rank 29th in offense in average yards allowed per game at 290.8 and last in defense in average yards allowed per game at 413.7. 

“This team is very tired right now,” Pederson added. “And we need this week to refresh and get ready for the final six weeks.”
