French professional football’s governing body, the LFP, has told the club to pay €55m (£46m), including lost bonuses and wages from the striker’s seven-year stay at Paris, but the club have insisted they will not abide by the ruling. ( pgzen )
Mbappe is believed to have contacted UEFA last month over his wage dispute.
He was originally due to receive a huge signing bonus in February and is trying to collect the final three months of his wages from the club.
The controversy stems from his bitter exit from the Parc des Princes this summer.
“Given the limited legal scope that the jury has to decide on this case in its entirety, the case will have to be contested before another court, and PSG is willing to present all the facts in the coming months and years,” the club said.
Tensions flared when Mbappe informed PSG he would not extend his contract by another year, leaving him on a free transfer. He was put on the transfer list and was banned from training.
But he eventually returned to the squad after reaching an agreement that, according to Mbappe, ‘protects all parties’.
In a letter sent to Mbappe’s lawyers, PSG allege that the player’s legal representatives proposed a deal in August 2023 that would see him take a €55m cut in his bonuses for the 2023-24 season.
It would see him return to the team, but the offer has reportedly yet to be signed or sent to the league. PSG claim this is the case as there is a verbal agreement between Mbappe and club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.
