bgame666 Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has answered Paul Scholes’ questions, explaining why he felt his side were behind Southampton for most of the game before coming back to beat them 3-1 on Thursday night.
The Red Devils were on the verge of a fourth consecutive home league defeat after falling behind to the Saints after Manuel Ugarte’s own goal in the first half was a game that looked unlikely to be turned around. bgame666
Before the game was clearly improved by the substitution of substitute players such as Joshua Zirkzee, Toby Collyer came on the field in the last half hour, especially the Dutch striker who helped support the play of Ahmad who made a hat trick in the last 12 minutes to lead the team to a 3-1 victory.
After the game, Ruben Amorim was interviewed by TNT Sports before being questioned by Scholes, who asked him if he had not seen the same enthusiasm and form as he had in the games against Liverpool and Arsenal.
Amorim defended his teammates, saying that it was not a matter of mental state or enthusiasm.
“I think you’re looking at mentality, strength, enthusiasm in the game today, it’s not quite there again in the first 70-75 minutes of the game,” Scholes told Amorim.
“It’s not just the fatigue, but playing in a stadium where we’ve lost the last three games here and the pressure is different,” Amorim explained.
“We tried to press them up front and you could feel the difficulty. They caused us a lot of problems between the lines. We had a hard time pressing up high. This team is not used to doing that.
“It looked like a lack of enthusiasm, Ugarte was too slow, Menou was too slow, Bruno moved outside but the ball was inside, the defensive-to-offensive transition and Leni Yoro couldn’t keep up with his opponent.
“These little things let the team down and we start to worry when we don’t have the ball. Then you have one perfect moment, one goal, one chance where you feel the team can control the game better.
“I want to be fair to my players, today it was not about lack of enthusiasm, it was about lack of speed and sometimes control of the game.” ( bgame666 )
