mungme168 Sony Pictures has been wanting to remake “ Starship Troopers ” for some time now, and it looks like they’re getting closer. It’s been reported that “District 9” and “Chappie” director Neill Blomkamp has signed on to adapt and direct the film.
The report also says that the film will differ from the first version that was released in 1997 by director Paul Verhoeven in that it will not be a remake of that film, but rather a return to the original story, which is the 1959 novel by Robert A. Heinlein. mungme168
The story in the book tells the story of a war between the human planet and an alien race that resembles insects. The protagonist is a young man named Johnny Rico who volunteers to join the army to fight and gradually rises in the ranks during training and fighting.
The original was a glorification of a military-dominated society that was seen as fascist. In the first version, Van Hoven, who grew up in a Nazi-occupied country during World War II, changed the tone of the film to a satirical take on fascism.
Blomcamp will also executive produce the film, along with his writing partner Terry Tatchell, who previously directed “Gran Turismo” for Sony. ( mungme168 )
