The original Broadway musical is a reinterpretation of the legend of Orpheus and Yudes. The original story tells of Orpheus, a great musician whose lyre can enchant animals with his music. Orpheus falls in love with Yudes, a nymph who is captivated by his lyre. When Yudes is bitten by a snake and dies, Orpheus goes to the underworld and plays his music until Hades relents and resurrects Yudes.
The Broadway musical is based on Annis Mitchell’s book and songs, about an underworld nymph living in poverty until her singer-songwriter lover comes to her rescue. The play had an Off-Broadway run, first opening in 2016, and made its Broadway debut in 2019 to critical acclaim. The musical was nominated for 14 Tony Awards this year, winning eight, including Best Musical and Best Original Score.
Myra is known to Thai audiences from Thailand’s Got Talent Season 1, when she was only 13 years old, and made it to the final six of the show. She was also chosen to voice the Thai dubbed version of Disney’s “Moana”. She also had supporting roles in Netflix’s “He’s All That” and Prime Video’s “Cruel Intentions”. ( sudpung168 )
