Veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor has confirmed he is ready to back Justin Fields as the New York Jets’ first-stringer but is also ready to play if given the chance, ESPN reports. ( mungmee168 )
“Whether I do it or not, my attitude and the way I’ve conditioned myself to get ready for the season since my freshman year has been to approach each day as if you’re the starter,” Taylor said. “As a quarterback, you have an opportunity in front of you, so you’ve got to be ready for it.”
The Jets signed Taylor to a two-year deal last offseason to serve as Aaron Rodgers’ backup, before the Greens signed Fields to a two-year deal this offseason, with Taylor continuing to play as the backup.
Taylor, who turns 36 in August, has a veteran career that includes spells with the Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, LA Chargers, Houston Texans, New York Giants and Jets, playing in 94 games (58 starts), posting a 29-28-1 record, completing 61.9 percent of his passes for 12,254 yards, 68 touchdowns and 29 interceptions.
