Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton said he is pleased with the battle for starting quarterback between rookie Bo Nix and veteran duo Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson, NFL Network reports. ( mungmee168 )
Stidham and Wilson, who have started a combined 37 times over seven seasons, will compete for the starting quarterback spot with Nix, the 12th overall pick in the draft, whom Peyton has likened to a group of orphans.
“It’s a bunch of orphans,” Peyton said. “They’re all orphans. They’re from somewhere, but they’re doing great. It’s a nice room.”
The Broncos’ search for a franchise quarterback has been ongoing since Peyton Manning retired after the 2015 season, which also featured the Broncos’ final playoff appearance, but Peyton is searching for the best fit for his current system and the competition among the three is still on.
“They come from different systems,” Peyton said of his quarterbacks, each with different experiences and different advancements. “One comes from college, one comes from two or three NFL systems, one comes from one. They’re all competing to learn the system. I’ll tell you, you watch them practice, they’re doing a good job.”
