Austin Ekeler is hoping new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore will help the Los Angeles Chargers play more consistently after taking over from Joe Lombardi, NFL Network reported Saturday. ( mungmee168 )
The Chargers’ season fell apart after a 30-31 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the wild-card round of the playoffs, despite a 27-0 lead, before the Thunder fired Lombardi and brought in Moore, who left the Dallas Cowboys after a four-year stint, as the new offensive coordinator, a move Ekeler understands was necessary to instigate change.
“We had some success, but we’re still looking for new chemistry to be more consistent,” Ekeler said. “The NFL is so fluid, so we brought Kellen in to see what we could get with him. He had a good stat line with Dallas, top of the line in some of those categories. Let’s see if this can be a new combination that keeps us consistent, because that’s what happens at the end of the season. We can’t have these ups and downs.”
Ekeler added that he has spoken with new offensive coordinator Moore about his expectations for improving on what the Chargers had accomplished before he arrived in LA.
“We talked a little bit,” Ekeler said. “I told him, ‘Listen, you’re coming into a hungry team. We’re ready to go. I know that. I’m going to be ready until we get to training camp. And I’m going to let everybody know and remind everybody that we’re 27-0 and we lost. And we’ve got to get back there because we’ve got some work to do. So I’m excited for him to come in and I hope he’s ready as well.
