Real Madrid are awaiting the return of Thibaut Courtois so the 32-year-old goalkeeper can be tested after a muscle strain ruled him out of Belgium’s 3-0 win over Ukraine on Sunday to progress 4-3 on aggregate, according to Relevo.
Courtois returned to the Belgium national team after a change of coach from Domenico Tedesco to Rudi Garcia after the Real Madrid goalkeeper fell out with his former manager, and made his first appearance for the Red Devils in Europe in two years in the 3-1 defeat to Ukraine on Thursday.
Rudi Garcia had planned to continue with Courtois in goal for Sunday’s rematch with Ukraine, but the 32-year-old picked up a muscle strain during the warm-up and decided not to play, with Mats Sels coming on in his place and helping the Red Devils get revenge by beating Ukraine 3-0 to reach the semi-finals 4-3 on aggregate.
