United boss has been told by former French boss that the current system is unfair
“They (the Europa League winners) should automatically qualify for the Europa League again, but not necessarily the Champions League,” Wenger told BeIN Sports.
“Especially when you are in the Premier League where there are five teams that qualify, I think maybe UEFA should think about it and review it.”
“On the other hand, people will tell you that to make the Europa League interesting and motivating, you have to give them that prize (qualification for the Champions League).”
Manchester United are 15th in the Premier League and their only chance to salvage this dismal season is to win the Europa League.
It would be a huge salvation and they have one foot in the final, leading Athletic Bilbao 3-0 ahead of Thursday’s semi-final second leg.
To Wenger’s comments, Amorim replied: “I only know the rules.”
“If people want to change the rules, fine, but these are the rules and the rules are the rules. If you win the Europa League, you go to the Champions League, so we will follow the rules. I don’t think much about it.”
