Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes isn’t bothered by his first loss of the season after Sunday’s 21-30 loss to the Buffalo Bills, insisting staying unbeaten isn’t the Chiefs’ ultimate goal, ESPN reports.
Mahomes completed 23 of 33 passes for 196 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions, while tight end Noah Gray caught four passes for 23 yards and two touchdowns. The other score came from rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy.
‘It’s cool to go undefeated,’ Mahomes said. ‘But that’s not our ultimate goal.’
The Chiefs had won their first nine games without possession, seven of which were by one-point margins, including four that went down to the final play. But the loss to the Bills was different, as the Buffaloes were clearly the better team. The Chiefs led just twice in the first half, and they led by just one point for a short time.
However, Mahomes is optimistic that the loss will fuel the Chiefs’ drive for the rest of the season.
“This is a good football team, so there’s nothing to worry about,” Mahomes said. “We feel like we can play better, so we’re going to come back and work and try to use this as motivation to be a better football team at the end of the day.”
‘I hope the loss was a positive. I’m not saying I or we relaxed, but at the same time, I felt like we got a win at the end of the game. I think it gave us a little bit of a boost, especially early in the game of football, especially on offense. And that came from me and the turnover on the first drive. It’s something you don’t get in big games like this.
The Chiefs have won 15 games in a row since last season, including a playoff appearance, with their last loss coming on Christmas Day last season after a loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.
“The Bills are a really good football team. You have to play your best football to beat the best football teams, and we didn’t play our best football today, but they came out and beat us. That’s what happens in the NFL, so respect to them. We’re going to see a good football team in the playoffs,” Mahomes said. ( player1688 )
