This has led to reports in the past that Cherki is not closing the door on extending his contract with Lyon, with the current one set to expire at the end of this season.

“He said no to PSG and Dortmund, he had the right to do that, he didn’t think he should go to Fulham, (and) Crystal Palace liked him a lot, but he decided to stay,” Texter said.

“We looked at all the options and I think he understands the needs and the management of the team. He agreed to a multi-year (contract). It’s not signed yet but the team is prepared. I saw him today and he looked happy.”

Cherki’s relationship with Lyon has been in a bad way throughout the summer, with the player looking for a new club but ultimately failing to make the move he wanted. Now, it has been reported that the two parties have reconciled and are set to sign a new contract.
