But on the field of the match, the news was only heard during halftime, causing the Swedish players to refuse to play for the remaining 45 minutes, while the home players understood the situation and accepted the away team’s decision.

After controlling the incident, Lindelof came out to explain the reason for wanting to cancel the match for the safety of Swedish fans. 

“We discussed how to handle the rest of the game against us and Belgium,” the Manchester United defender said. 

“The conclusion is that we don’t play any more.” 

“The most important thing is the safety of fans in the immediate aftermath.” 

Fans were gradually released from the stadium after midnight (local time), with the gunman still unable to be apprehended. The location of the incident was only 5 kilometers from the race track.
