Smith broke his right leg in Week 11 against the Houston Texans and has suffered an infection after surgery, leaving it unclear when the veteran quarterback will be ready to return. The Redskins are estimating Smith will miss the entire 2019 season.
Redskins president Bruce Allen told the media that Smith is on the mend, but it is still unclear when the 34-year-old quarterback will be ready to return.
“We’ll see how it goes. We’re optimistic. If anybody can come back, it’s Alex. I’m sure he wanted to go out and shoot the basket yesterday,” Allen said of Smith, who attended the Washington Wizards’ NBA game.
The Redskins lost Smith to a broken leg in Week 11 before sacrificing backup quarterback Colt McCoy and signing Mark Sanchez. Finally, Josh Johnson started the season 7-9, completing 62.5 percent of his passes for 2,180 yards, 10 touchdowns and five interceptions. ( kindee1688 )
