The Patriots are set to begin training camp on July 24, and there are questions over whether Michel will be ready to return to practice with his teammates, but the 24-year-old running back has revealed that is a goal for him.
“It’s a process and it’s just something I’m just working on,” Michel revealed. “That’s the goal to be ready for training camp,” he said of the arthroscopic knee surgery, before saying, “It’s all part of the game. I wasn’t involved last year, last year was the year before. This is a new moment. Anything can happen.”
The former second-round draft pick in the 2018 draft class made an impact in the postseason with the Patriots, carrying the ball 71 times for 336 yards and six touchdowns, both franchise-bests in the NFL, and helping the Patriots win their most recent Super Bowl. In the regular season, Michel rushed 209 times for 931 yards and six touchdowns, also in the first half.
However, Michel’s status for the 2019 season remains unclear, as New England has a crowded backfield with Michel, James White, Rex Burkhead and James Develin, but the 24-year-old running back still has the motivation to outperform last year.
‘Just build on that moment,’ Michel said of his goals for the 2019 season. ‘Build on what I’ve done, see if I can improve to the next level? How much? How much can I learn from it? How many more points can I score? I think that’s what it’s all about, just build on that ultimate goal and try to improve to that point.’ ( kindee1688 )
