“This year and everything that comes next, I just want to thank my teammates,” Mahomes said.
Mahomes completed 21-of-27 passes for 182 yards and three touchdowns. He also carried the ball six times for 44 yards, including a 26-yard run on the drive that led to Harrison Butker’s game-tying field goal late in the game, although the 27-year-old quarterback aggravated a sprained upper right ankle late in the second quarter after being tackled by Eagles linebacker T.J. Edwards.
“When you have an upper ankle sprain, when you have little adjustments like that, it really helps,” Mahomes explained. “Coming into the game, I felt better than I did in Cincinnati. Luckily, we were able to go into halftime and get some taping (on the ankle) and some mobility to try to get some mobility back.”
Mahomes plans to take two to three weeks off and is confident his ankle will improve gradually, with plans to return to action in April in his home state of Texas and resume his offseason activities later in the season.
“I’m definitely going to be ready for the offseason and all that,” Mahomes said. “We’re definitely going to continue to rehab, continue to heal, just give him a break. I mean, I think the best thing for him is to just rest.”
For Mahomes, the dream is to reach the level of success of Tom Brady, who has won seven Super Bowls, while the Chiefs quarterback has already won two Super Bowl rings by the age of 27.
“It’s been an amazing run the last five or six years,” Mahomes said. “Let’s keep it going.”
