Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Omar Khan has confirmed the Steelers have no plans to trade wide receivers at this time, especially number one tight end George Pickens, who is unhappy with his contract, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. ( wilson88 )
‘Nothing’s happening right now,’ Khan said. ‘I think I’ll just say if there’s an opportunity to talk about someone who’s there, someone who’s been cut, not necessarily a trade, we’ll look at it. But I can assure you right now we’re focused on 90 guys.’
When asked about 26-year-old wide receiver Brandon Aiyak, who has contract issues and requested a trade out of the San Francisco 49ers, Khan said he hasn’t talked about it yet.
‘I can tell you that of the 32 general managers that we’ve all talked to, we’ve all talked to each other, but believe it or not, the process is still in its early stages.’
The Steelers will take some time during training camp to make a decision on Pickens, with third-round rookie draft pick Roman Wilson a possible option, as well as veterans Van Jefferson, Calvin Austin, Kace Watkins, Scott Miller and others battling for a spot on new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith’s roster.
“You’re obviously going to take this time to evaluate the entire roster, not just the (wide receiver) room,” Khan said. “We’re always going to talk to people. If there’s an opportunity to evaluate a situation or an available player, that’s what we’re going to do. We’re going to think about it. If it makes sense, we’re going to go for it. If it doesn’t, we’re not going to do it.”
