The Reds are yet to announce who will replace the 56-year-old, but it is understood Xabi Alonso is their top target.

Klopp took over at Anfield in 2015 and has since brought several academy players into the first team, including Alexander-Arnold.

The 25-year-old has been a key player for the Reds since his debut in 2016, scoring 18 goals and 82 assists in 302 appearances.

Alexander-Arnold James has yet to play for another manager at Liverpool, so James warns he could face problems when Klopp departs.

“I love Trent when you look at his career. He came out of nowhere to play in the European Cup final and has raised the bar,” James said.

“Then he went through a period of media criticism. But I got through it. and returned to perform his best this season And may be the first name on Liverpool’s team sheet.”

“So I think it’s very important that he stays. Because he went through a difficult time. And I hope he wants to be part of another very successful period for Liverpool.”
