Real Madrid legend Jose Maria Gutierrez Guti believes Kylian Mbappe’s lack of confidence has contributed to the 25-year-old’s poor form, with him scoring just 0.5 goals per game since joining Los Blancos in the summer, Mundo Deportivo reported on Thursday.
Mbappe is facing one of the toughest periods of his career, with the French forward struggling to live up to expectations at the start of his career at Real Madrid, but things have not improved much since his missed penalty in the latest game which resulted in a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League.
‘We all want to know what happened to Mbappe. He looked unsure, shy, a few minutes before he took the penalty. He looked scared. In that sense, he was definitely not happy with his performance and wanted something more. He lacked confidence and then you add that Real Madrid were waiting for him with bated breath and he left PSG where he had everything under control. ‘
‘Now Mbappe has gone to another team, where of course he has to compete with great players to be the best, and that comes at a price, and the Real Madrid shirt is difficult, and that’s normal. It’s difficult to think that a player can adapt so quickly to a club like Real Madrid, where it’s very difficult to play,’ Guti said.
With Real Madrid struggling with injuries, Los Blancos can’t afford to drop Mbappe, and Guti doesn’t believe it’s the right solution either.
‘Leaving him would be the worst solution. We have to protect him and that’s why it’s best for him to stay at the club. Real Madrid, Florentino Perez and Ancelotti will protect him because we all believe in him. I believe in him. It’s easy to criticise him and say he’s not good enough, but Mbappé is one of the best players in the world. ‘ ( vox888 )
