The New York Giants are set to part ways with 32-year-old outside linebacker Golden Tate and 27-year-old linebacker David Mayo for a combined $8.4 million. According to a report from NFL Network on Wednesday.  ( marinabays  )

According to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Giants informed Tate and Mayo that they would be released from the team. Both players still have two more years on their contracts and will help the Blues save about $8.4 million in salary cap space for 2021.

Tate caused a stir when he signed a four-year, $37.5 million contract in 2019, but he missed the first four games due to violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substance policy. Before coming back to perform impressively with 49 receptions for 676 yards and 6 touchdowns, but still lower than his previous peak with the Detroit Lions. 

The 32-year-old outside wing was disappointing last season, catching just 35 passes for 388 yards and scoring just two, the second-lowest total in his 11-season career in 12 appearances. Started 4 games due to frequent injury problems. 

Mayo signed with the Giants the same year after being signed by the San Francisco 49ers. Released from the team The 27-year-old linebacker returned the favor with 82 tackles, five forced fumbles and two sacks before signing a three-year contract extension in the 2020 off-season, but injured his meniscus before the first week. and was placed on the injured list before returning to the field in Week 11, mostly as a reserve and making only 29 tackles.
