The story originated from an ESPN report that during a player meeting led by veteran guard Kyle Lowry, team members reported that Embiid had been criticized by junior guard Tyrese Maxey for being a burden to the team.

The unusually long recovery period made it difficult for both players and staff to prepare and bring out their best potential.
