David Ornstien reports that Van Dijk’s new two-year deal will be worth around £400,000 a week, which will make him Europe’s highest-paid defender.
“I’m very happy, very proud,” Van Dijk told the club’s official website.
“I have a lot of emotions going through my head right now talking about it.
“It’s such a proud feeling, such a happy feeling, it’s incredible. My career journey so far, to sign another two years with such a special club and I’m so happy.
“It was always Liverpool, the only team. It was always in my head, it was always the plan and it was always Liverpool.
