San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch has revealed he has held talks with trading wide receiver Brandon Aiyak, 26, following a deal to trade Deebo Samuel for a fifth-round draft pick from the Washington Commanders, NFL Network reports.  cup1688

Aiyak is out of the 2024 season ahead of schedule after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament. He signed a four-year, $120 million extension last offseason. 

“Usually this happens to really good players,” Lynch said. “I remember having a similar conversation two years ago. You get a phone call and you always listen to the call. Since (head coach) Kyle (Shenahan) and I’ve been here, we’ve been the No. 2-highest-paid team the last four years. We’ve been the No. 4-highest-paid team. So at some point, you’ve got to reset a little bit or at least recalibrate. You can’t keep your foot on the gas pedal.”

‘I think some good things have come out of that. We’ve got to get younger. I think we’re the oldest team in football. After a good run last year, I think it’s good to keep getting younger. Our draft class this year was a great move in that direction. We’ll have four picks in the top 100. If the comp picks come out the way we see them, we’ll have 10.
